Living Now : Here -- There

Mother-Daughter-Sister

Story by Gwyneth Merner

This piece was written in a very respectful and dignified manner. Given the subject matter, it would have been easy to belittle the adult who is now the child, but the author was sensitive to the fact that this woman, who now depends on others for everything, was a person who taught at age 17. Her current state is not a reflection of her life, just a difficult part of growing older. Having one great grandmother going through this difficult transition right now, I was actually moved to tears reading this piece. I appreciate the sensitivity to which this woman's story was told.
